Dr Ian Hyams MBChB LMCC is a family physician with a special interest in fatigue/pain disorders. He qualified in South Africa and headed up a multidisciplinary team specializing in the management of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. Dr Hyams acted as chairman of the National ME Research Foundation for several years in South Africa and he was also elected as chairman of the ME Association of South Africa.
He was later invited to do a sabbatical in the USA at the prestigious Cheney Clinic in Charlotte, North Carolina. From 1996-1998 Dr Hyams was appointed assistant research director at the Cheney Clinic, a specialist clinic managing Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. He also was one of the medical advisors for the American CFIDS Association and ran the “ask the doctor” column for the organization’s magazine.
In 1998 he was appointed Assistant Clinical Director of the Essex Neuroscience Unit in the greater London area, UK where he worked in organizing the in and outpatient specialist service for Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome patients. He later joined a private clinic in Harley Street London, doing family medicine as well as taking on referrals for FM/CFS patients. Dr Hyams and his family are happy to be settled in beautiful British Columbia, where he continues to practice family medicine and accept referrals from doctors for fibromyalgia and chronic pain patients.
Dr Hyams has been appointed recently as the Interim Clinical Lead at the Complex Chronic Diseases Clinic at BC Woman’s Hospital in Vancouver.
